Endless Summer

I don't want this feeling to ever end
Somethings always last

Back in Hawaii

Before it feels too much like fall, here is my trip back to Hawaii

One of my favorite beaches for some tanning, swimming, and sun.

Photobucket
The complete Hawaiian spread when I got home from the beach.

The feast for two at Lanikai.

Photobucket
Grandma's home cooked meal. Macaroni salad, my favorite fried chicken, musubis, and fried noodles.

The Deadbeats at Jazz Minds. My favorite local band.

Katsu at Bairin-Ginza. This is our go-to place for late night happy hour katsu treats! I've been craving some top notch katsu for months. My fave..yamaimo shiso katsu. Also a must-have at Bairin...shime saba!!!

Feeling Inspired

Photobucket
Northern Spyfood Co. inspired me to get my ass up at a decent time on Saturday to get to the farmers market.

Even though this katsu curry was nothing like what I can get at home, dis broke da mouth. I appreciate what New York can provide when your homesick.

The Kyoto and New Orleans iced coffee at Blue Bottle inspired me to attend a coffee tasting and sign up for coffee class.

I'm going to San Francisco in October to see them live. The Suburbs is one of the best albums of 2010. I NEED to see them play live at least once in my life.

NY O-face moments

Making use of the Quad Cam to take pictures of food.

Photobucket
Vegan cupcakes from butter lane. You can chose what flavor cupcake and frosting you want. They frost it right there too! I would say this is the #2 best cupcakes I've had. You know a cupcake shop is good when they have Stumptown coffee brewing:).

Photobucket
Giant beers from a Belguim beer garden in Williamsburg.

Homemade soba and some fancy tempura. WINNAHS

Photobucket
Fish n' Chips from A Salt and Battery. This place will change your life. I think about this almost as much as Halal.

Dessert from Cha-an. Clockwise: Black sesame seed creme brulee, green tea and chocolate mochi (that was wrapped in what I hope is a ti leaf for distinction), zenzai, and green tea cookies. Every one of these desserts were absolutely amazing. There was so much flavor in these tiny treats. Zenzai contained sake ice cream, mochi balls, azuki bean, and matcha. The inside of the chocolate mochi was like a truffle. We will definitely be back again!

two four

My first birthday in New York was quite an experience. Flowers delivered to my office, cupcakes from Billy's, dinner at Uva, TLC, but my birthday gift I received that night topped it off. The best cupcakes. in the world and one of the most funny moments of my life framed. So lucky to have my roommate!

Red velvet cake soft serve...my goodness that was good.

Toro y moi is my new obsession. Thanks to Sound Fix blog (and their amazing store in Williamsburg) and a fellow intern! I listen to him on the way to work on the M79 and E. He has a unique sound that puts me in a good mood. Hopefully I will get to see him play soon. Fave track: Talamak

This was one of the best nights I had in the apartment. It involved mimosa's in ikea cups, lmfao pandora playlist, fuji apples on our bottoms, kumu outfits made from sheets, naked marc jacobs shirt, hats galore, hula dancing, and ju. Unfortunately it would be extremely inappropriate to post those pics.

Snow out in Central Park

Halal food is my weakness...

This is what you call wash and fold.

I had Charlotte Gainsbourg's album, IRM in my iPod for a while, but never bothered to devote time to fully listen to it. I listened to it after watching Science of Sleep and it's actually pretty good. Also helps that she has impeccable style and is in a movie with Gael Garcia Bernal. Fave track: Time of the Assassins

Mast Brothers

We went to the Ace Hotel to drink Stumptown Coffee (best coffee I've ever had). Mocha on the left, latte on the right. I was excited to see the Ace because the Portland location is mind-blowing amazing. I was more than impressed with the set up, ambiance, and well-dressed baristas.

We stumbled across cute chocolate bars that were nicely packaged and decided to try it. Little did we know what we were getting ourselves into...

Mast Brothers Chocolate collaboration with Stumptown Coffee. Direct trade espresso beans from Haile Gebre's Mordecofe farm and 72% cacao beans from Madagascar.

Look at the chunks of espresso beans.

Uni is like a little piece of ocean in your mouth. Gaku has by far the best uni in Hawaii. I'm spoiled with good food! If you haven't been there yet, LET'S GOOO!!!

Favorite Albums of 2009

These are my picks for the best albums of 2009 (in no particular order).

I think this is my number 1 pick for album of the year.

Conor Oberst is my hero. Fave tracks: Eagle on a Pole, Nikorette, Cabbage Town, Air Mattress. I think it could've been better if he didn't share the mic....sorry:(

Best supergroup of 2009! M.Ward and Conor together?!?! Its a done deal. Let's hope they go on tour this year. Fingers crossed!!!

Made me like hip-hop again!

Looks are deceiving. You will love every song, so get this album if don't already have it! OH YEAH! Mayer Hawthorne in Hawaii on February 24th!

My favorite local band:). My 2/3 and I have many memories listening to The Deadbeats. 2009 would not be the same without this band. Pick up your copy of at Fresh Cafe! Visit them at Jazz Minds every Wednesday and you might see me there.

For some reason, this album makes me so happy. If you had a bad day, listen to Blind Pilot. Only good comes out of Portland, Oregon.

#2 favorite supergroup. Discovery consists of Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend and Wes Miles from Ra Ra Riot. This is a fun dance album that doesn't hide how lame and cute it is!

Loved it but became obsessed with it after seeing him live. Love you M.Ward.

Will you marry me Dent May?

My favorite album cover of 2009. Great sound and music from this Brooklyn-based band. Fave tracks: Two Doves and Stillness is the Move.

Who doesn't like this!?!? AND the band name is great!
